Our gadgets & things

You guys have contacted us through almost every possible channel to ask us about something you’ve seen us use on the blog or YouTube or to ask our advice on something you are thinking about buying. You even write to tell us about the gadgets you’ve bought based on our experience so we thought this may be a good time to collate all of this info into an easy to find list for anyone wondering about our gear.

Now in the interest of making sure you guys know exactly what is happening, as well as generally chatting out things we use, we have added amazon links to some items. As always these are items we have bought and use ourselves, and only gadgets we personally recommend. We don’t receive any kind of sponsorship or gear to advertise and we don’t know and will never encourage you to buy anything which we personally do not recommend, but these links are something called “affiliate links”. This means if you click on the link and buy something we get a small (tiny) commission (about 4%). It doesn’t cost you anything extra at all, but any kind of commission we receive will help to support this blog and YouTube channel.

Please note though, you are under no obligation to purchase using these links, so please don’t feel obligated.

Our garden gadgets

Our quadgrows

Quadgrow planter: https://amzn.to/2QIHEWT
You’ve seen or watched us chat about our chilligrow and quadgrow systems a lot over the past few years. They have just helped to make the greenhouse a much simpler environment by regulating the watering in there and reducing the disasters of my poor memory.

We have 2 quagrows and 2 Chilligrows as well as the big quadgrow plus. We are properly converted.

Our hotbin composter

hotbin composter: https://amzn.to/2WB3P0h
This was a big buy for us as it wasn’t cheap and we were pretty much trying this out “blind” but it definitely composts much quicker, and for us the big thing is that we don’t have to be turning the heap, which we found quite physical. Once we got the hang of the levels of compostables and how to manage things, we started churning out the compost, so we’ve had to learn new ways to manage our “production” to keep n top of things.

We bought the package of the bin, wood chips etc so we had everything we needed to get started.

Greenhouse staging

Getting the set up in my greenhouse this year has made a massive difference to how I use it and how much I use it. Have proper, stable staging and at a proper height for my back is fantastic. The best bit is that this stuff folds flat so I can change my greenhouse style depending on the time of year and the purpose of the greenhouse.

Smaller items

It’s not all about big, expensive buys when you are trying to make life easier. Sometimes a small, seemingly insignificant item can make a huge difference. Here are some of the “everyday” things we use.

Mo Bacter organic lawn feedhttps://amzn.to/2HZKYIl
If you struggle with moss in the lawn like us this is awesome. It breaks the moss down and turns it into food for your lawn, and it doesn’t smell nearly as bad as most of the other stuff.

Our cooking gadgets

There are probably only 2 kitchen gadgets people associate with us directly, but as with any activity, there are a wealth of smaller items which just make our lives so much easier and we wouldn’t be without them.

Our coffee machine

Anyone who is a regular viewer of our youtube videos or actually knows us in person, knows how much use our coffee machine gets. This was a very big ticket item for us when we bought it (although we’ve found an amazon link for you guys which is much cheaper). However, we don’t regret this buy in the slightest and it has paid for itself three fold now as we no longer buy coffees at work, we take homemade coffee into work now. Environmental too as we are not adding the the throw away cup culture.

There are a few videos on our channel about this machine as well as a whole breakaway community from our channel and this blog based around our coffee habits.

Our stand mixer

Our stand mixer is a bit of an unsung hero as we’ve never mentioned it directly, which is crazy because it is probably the hardest working and most used piece of kit we own. It was a present from Kate to help when I was struggling with elbow injuries and couldn’t knead bread any more and it has never been out of use since. It just makes life so much easier. What more can I say?
